Jerry Vines Blog
I have been away from blogging since the beginning of summer. The summer has been a busy one, indeed. I have been preaching all over everywhere. Some great times with wonderful people of God in a lot of churches.
And, I have been nearly drowning in technology. I started having a number of problems with my computer. So, I made the decision to switch to a Mac. Best decision I ever made. But, it was really something making the change. Then, I got a new iPhone 4. Fortunately, I haven’t had the problems with it some have had. On top of all that, I purchased the new iPad. Talk about a miracle machine! I can do about everything but brush my teeth with that contraption! I switched from the Kindle to the iPad for a lot of my secular reading. The screen is bright and clear. I can adjust the font to help me read even better.
Now my Mac, iPhone 4 and iPad are all synched! In an instant all my emails, contacts, music, books and whatever are scattered abroad! This technology stuff makes life move at an almost instant pace.
But, technology can’t do some things. It can’t make me the person I ought to be. It can’t make me like Christ. It doesn’t contribute to my holiness. It takes time to do that.
So, the words of an old hymn come singing their way into my heart: “Take time to be holy, Speak oft with thy Lord; Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word; Take time to be holy, The world rushes on; Spend much time in secret With Jesus alone; By looking to Jesus Like Him thou shalt be; Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.”
And, oh yes. $100 to the first Minister of Music who leads that hymn in a service where I am preaching!

Welcome to the Mac world. I switched to the Mac computers a few years ago. I love my Macs. Hopefully one day Logos will get all the bugs out of their software and produce a product that will work flawlessly with Macs. I know they're working on it, they say. We'll see.
The only Mac products I don't have are the iPhone and the iPad. I've been considering the iPad. I notice that you mentioned that you do your secular reading on the iPad. If you don't mind my asking, is there some technical reason that you don't do your "spiritual" reading on your iPad? I am mulling over the idea of switching from my Kindle Dx to an iPad. I would appreciate your experience with both and what you may can tell me.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer me.

August 11, 2010 @ 9:23 AMHello, Jesse. Great to hear from you
I don’t do my sermon preparation, Bible study reading on iPad because I’m an old school guy! I know you can do it all on iPad but I’m just not ready to learn how to do that. And, I do enjoy holding a commentary, etc. in my hand and marking, underlining. I’m hopeless, I guess.
Try to come to our Bible Conference at FBC ATL. It’s going to be a time of great blessing. I would love to meet you personally.

August 16, 2010 @ 7:58 PMI love using my IPAD for Docs to go. I can put all my PDF bible books on there. Olive tree has a great bible program for Ipad. Wordsearch is working on a program for IPAD. Logos is good for school but Wordsearch is great for preaching... People like Olford. Wiersbe. Phillips and so much more preaching material. I wish Dr Vines material was on there.
